Discipline. It's a hot topic. Kids don’t like it, parents don’t like enforcing it, but it’s necessary. So, what does the Bible say about it? Proverbs 13:24 says, “Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” Sounds pretty intense, right?
Loving Correction
The key here is “loving” discipline. It’s not about punishment for punishment’s sake. It’s about guiding your kids and helping them understand the consequences of their actions. Ephesians 6:4 tells us not to provoke our children to anger but to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. It’s a balance.

Kids need consistency. If you say “no” one day and “yes” the next, they’re going to be confused. Hebrews 12:11 says, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” It’s tough in the moment, but it pays off in the long run.
Discipline with Grace
Always discipline with grace. Remember, the goal is to teach and guide, not to break their spirit. Colossians 3:21 warns us not to embitter our children, or they will become discouraged. Discipline should be firm but loving, correcting but also encouraging.
