The sight of President Donald Trump drinking water has once again ignited controversy on social media (video below).
The latest incident occurred while unveiling his new national security strategy in front of military service members in Washington, D.C., reports the Daily Mail.
On one occasion during the event, the president drank water from a glass while holding it with both hands. On social media, some diagnosed a wide range of disorders.
“I suspect dementia or blood sugar swings,” tweeted one observer.
Another wrote: “My great grandmother who had dementia drank water like Trump did and barely ate before she passed away.”
One person spoke from experience, while admitting that it might not apply to the president. “I use two hands on a glass when my hand shaking is out of my control (I have essential tremor),” the person said. “My guess is Trump is hiding that kind of shaking (or Parkinsons). Of course, that’s also ME applying MY condition to him, so, take that for what it’s worth.”
Another user also offered a medical diagnosis. “With today’s speech, anyone can clearly see Trump’s crumbling health,” the person stated. “Slurring, sippy cup style water drinking, involuntary jerks & restricted eye mvmts on display-part of his dozen+ symptoms of Frontotemporal Dementia It’s degenerative, highly progressive & worsening every week.”
Others merely took the opportunity to poke fun at the scene.
“Are his hands too small to hold a glass?” asked one commenter. “Is this why he uses both?”
“Can’t someone please just get him a sippy cup!!!” added another commenter.
“That’s exactly how my 2-year-old nephew drinks from a glass,” another wrote.
This latest controversy over Donald Trump drinking water comes one month after the previous instance.
On Nov. 15, the president also generated controversy when he reached for a drink of water during a press conference at the White House.
However, when he went to grab the water from underneath his podium, it wasn’t there.
“They don’t have water — that’s okay,” he said. “That’s okay.”
Seconds later he searched the podium again, and emerged successfully with a bottle of Fiji water, which he sipped while clutching it with both hands, before proceeding with his remarks.
The scene recalled the time Sen. Marco Rubio awkwardly guzzled water during an official response to former President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, as the Daily Mail noted.
During the Rubio incident, Donald Trump mercilessly mocked the Florida senator, calling him a “total choke artist” for getting thirsty during a speech.
But after the president’s awkward moment with the bottle of Fiji water, Rubio was quick to chime in with a sarcastic, self-deprecating remark.
“Similar, but needs work on his form,” Rubio tweeted. “Has to be done in one single motion & eyes should never leave the camera. But not bad for his 1st time.”
